Vegan Skin Care Night!
I like to experiment with natural beauty products, mostly the things I can make with what I find in my cupboards or refrigerator at home. I’ve made various hair masks and other remedies but tonight I’m trying something new- a vegan acne mark solution!
I have a lot of acne marks- not so much scars; they aren’t embedded into my skin. But I have lots of small, dark discolorations from zits past that prevent me from going sans-makeup which is a huge bummer for me. So I’ve been googling myself silly looking up recipes for masks to fade these marks.
I started off with lemon juice, all over my face. It apparently is a good source of alpha-hydroxy acids that act as a natural bleach. So, okay. Not like I have much of a tan to lose anyways.
After about ten minutes, I made a paste of 2 tbsp baking soda and about 2 tsp water. I massaged it into my skin and will be letting it sit for about 20 more minutes or so. I read that some forms of baking soda are used in micro dermabrasion and sloughing off my dead skin is exactly what I need to do.
I’ve been using a Neutrogena retinol cream at night, also. It sounds a little silly because retinol is usually associated with wrinkles, but that’s because retinol increases skin cell turnover. Makes sense!
I will follow up with olive oil as a moisturizer. Fingers crossed that I see some sort of results sooner than later, otherwise I’m sitting here with baking soda on my face letting it tingle and burn for no good reason.
